Is Liverpool the new Barcelona?

Posted by Sam on April 15, 2008 11:06 AM |

I think the answer to that question will only be apparent at the end of this year. At the moment half the city still looks like building site. But I think when it is all finshed it will take some beating.

I can't wait for all of the amazing shops that are going to open with the Grovesnor project, I only hope that they are going to be able to keep it looking spick and span and that the rest of the city centre doesn't go to pot!!

But look at this from the Chamber of Commerce:

"500 journalists have visited Liverpool so far and more than 2,400 articles in print media featuring Capital of Culture including 350 pieces in national newspapers, 94% are positive or neutral in tone.
International print and broadcast has been extensive, including New York Times; Sydney Morning Herald; Le Figaro; El Pais; seven Spanish TV networks; three French networks; CBS News. An example of the coverage is this piece in the Wall Street Journal, comparing Liverpool to Barcelona. "

Below is a story from the Wall Street Journal. I don't know about you but it don't think it is that complimentary when you read between the lines and where does it compare Liverpool to Barcelona?!!!

I guess it could have been worse-they could have focused on the negatives. Hmmmm........
