Ben Johnson's Panorama
Posted by Sam on January 31, 2008 4:02 PM
Yesterday I met Ben Johnson at the Walker Art Gallery to film an interview with him while he is busy completing the panorama.
I think you need to go and have a peak to see it for yourself. To work well I need peace and quiet. He is doing very well to keep his concentration as poeple wander in and out to watch him finsih his masterpiece.
I think it will look amazing when it is finished in 6-8weeks.
Personally I am interested to see his depiction of the buildings that havent been finished yet, or in some cases aren't even out of the ground.
He didnt want to show Liverpool as a building ground which is nice but what if plans change and they don't look like the originals? He won't be touching them up afterwards. I guess that will be the beauty of the painting and one that will amke it worth a pretty penny in years to come.
He was a lovely man and I was very taken with his other work too. Only wish I had had longer to look around.
If you go/have been share your thoughts!!

National Holocaust Memorial Day
Posted by Sam on January 30, 2008 10:48 AM
I know it was on Sunday and it is now Wednesday but I have been flat out busy!
National Holocaust memorial day was very moving. Some parts went on for a bit too long but otherwise I just wanted to sit and cry to be honest-but in a good way. I was humbled by it and it made me reflect on my own life and society.
I still can't get my head around the fact that this atrocity only happened a few decades ago and that it is still happening in the world.
I don't know about you but I tend to go day-to-day worrying about little things like wedding details and work and am I spending nough time with my little sister.
When out in the wider world people are dying all of the time. Sorry. People are being MURDERED all of the time.
But what can we do? Not a question easily answered.
Any thoughts.......................?
RESPECTacles

Hoping this works. First time loading a pic if there is a bunch of numbers above this I failed miserably and will try again later!!
The respectacles exhibition at the Town Hall is amazing and FREE!
I popped in after a meeting earlier and was blown away by it. 100,000 specs glistening in the light. I think the they way they have put the train tracks in the middle of a hall flanked by mirrors is inspiring as the tracks then go on and on and on and on...............
"I left you Liverpool but I never let you down" what utter TOSH

So I went to the Number One's project on Saturday night. I wasn't sure that I was keen on Atomic Kitten and theri cover of Cilla's song until I realised that those girls can sing! They have really lovely voices singing live.
What I couldn't understand through the concert was why there were so many references to Ringo.
After concert I went back to the office to edit my video (which took 7 hours btw!) and was enlightened by a colleague who showed me Ringo on J.Ross on YouTube
What a stupid, stupid thing to say. The thing is after watching him at the press conference the week before im not suprised. He has a funny humour and said similar things to us lot. As an ambassador of Liverpool he let the city down big time and every fan he ever had. No idea how well the single did but have a feeling it id dead in Liverpool now.
Anyway...
What I have been up to....

I haven't dropped off the planet-I am still here, Being quiet is usually a sign of being busy!
This week I have been trying my hand at more videos after my training. I think I doing ok. I guess you should really be the judge of that!!
I did the video for Friday night The Poeple's Opening which can be found on both the Post and Echo's websites. After training on Monday I should be able to upload the videos I do onto the blog.
At the end of last week I went to watch Aladdin at the Everyman theatre. It was a special performance for children with a visual disability. They wore specail headsets which were linked to an audio describer who talked them through what the characters were doing. The children also got to meet the actors and feel theri costumes and some of the props. All of the children were so excited and the actors and all the staff at the Everyman were amazing. It ws lovely to watch. The video is on the webiste....

Friday was the first time we were able to have a sneak-peak inside the Echo Arena and what a fantastic venue it will be! Def one to rival Manchester
The event on Friday was to give those who are volunteering to be ambassadors for Liverpool this year to take a look in the arena.
